Once a request for a data item is started, it continues until the ECU is powered off. The more data items requested, the slower the refresh rate. So if you request lots of data items the refresh rate will be relatively slow. Then if you request fewer items without cycling power to the ECU, the refresh rate will still be slow. To speed up the refresh rate, cycle power, then request fewer items.
