Diagnostic Tool User's Guide


This document provides an overview of the Kohler EFI Diagnostic Tool.

Prerequisites

The Kohler EFI Diagnostic Tool runs on Windows 8 or newer. A dual core or greater PC is required.
If Microsoft .NET 4.5 is not installed, it will be installed automatically.

Viewing service documents requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader. It can be downloaded from Adobe here:

Installation

Download the Kohler EFI Diagnostic Tool installer executable from here:

Once downloaded, run the installer executable and click through the wizard.

NOTE: The Kohler EFI Diagnostic Tool has a 5 installation limit. If more installations are needed, an additional kit will be required.

When the installation is finished, launch the application. Click OK in the “What’s New” dialog, and the registration dialog will be shown. Enter your Kohler Warranty ID Number if you have one. If you do not have one, leave it blank. Enter the License Serial Number printed on the card provided in the 25 761 50-S kit. Enter your dealer contact information here and select Continue.


Registration will require an internet connection. Be sure to provide an email address that’s readily accessible to you.

The provided email address should then receive a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to register and activate the software. You should be directed to a web page that says "Your Kohler EFI Diagnostic Tool is now registered and can be used.”

The software can be run no more than 10 times without registration.




Connection

Connect the Kohler EFI Electronic Interface module to a USB port on the PC, and to an engine. Switch the engine ignition to the On position.



Engine Selection

Click Auto Identify to select the connected engine, or select it from the list and click Continue With Selection.




Click the gear icon at the lower right to show the Preferences screen. The message at the lower left indicates whether the Kohler EFI Electronic Interface module is connected via USB, and whether an engine is connected and the ECU is communicating properly.



Main Menu

The Main Menu screen is then shown. All functions available for the selected engine can be accessed from this screen by clicking on the icons.

The currently selected engine is show at the top. The Back button at the bottom will return to the Engine Selection screen.




Trouble Codes

Active and Inactive trouble codes are listed on the Trouble Codes screen. The Clear Codes button at the bottom center will clear codes.

  • Click on a code to show additional documentation available for that code. An internet connection may be required.
  • If available, additional information can be shown by clicking on the Information icon next to “Active” or “Inactive” for that code.
  • If available, click the green right arrow button to show Guided Diagnostics for the code.
  • Click the Back button to return to the Main Menu.






    Manual

    The Manual screen shows the service manual for the selected Engine. Adobe Acrobat reader must be installed.

  • Click the Back button to return to the Main Menu.




    Guided Diagnostics

    The Guided Diagnostics screen shows the list of available guided diagnostics procedures for the selected Engine. An internet connection is required for this functionality.

  • Follow the directions shown to run through the procedure. Click the blue left arrow to step back and the blue right arrow to continue to the next step.
  • Click the Back button at the bottom to return to the Guided Diagnostics list, then to the Main Menu.




    Live Data

    The Live Data button the Main Menu will show available Data Sets. There are several built-in data sets, depending on the engine selected.

  • Click on a data set to show data items in a live updating list.
  • Click on the gauge icon to show the data set as a set of gauges.
  • Click Create New Data Set to select available data items and construct your own set.






  • Click the Window button at the right of each data item to show that item in a separate window.
  • Click the Chart button at the right to show the data item in a live chart.
  • Click the Start Record button to save the data, and click Recording again to stop. Note: Recording is only available if less than 10 items are selected.






    ECU Information

    The ECU Information button on the Main Menu will show all ECU data available for the selected engine.




    Recordings

    Click the Recordings button the Main Menu to list all recordings for the selected engine.

  • Click on a listing to show the data chart.
  • Click and drag on the chart to zoom in, and the Reset Zoom button to zoom back out.
  • Click on the Microsoft Excel icon to export the data as an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Click on the trashcan icon to delete the recording.






    Reports

    Click the Reports button the Main Menu to list all saved reports for the selected engine.

  • Click on New Report to create a report.
  • Click on a listing to show a saved report.
  • Click on the trashcan icon to delete the report.


  • When creating a new report, enter any additional information you would like to appear on the report, then click Continue to collect data.
  • Once data has been collected, the report is displayed and can be printed or exported.




    Preferences

    On the Preferences screen, select the desired language and units for data items.

  • Click on Application Registration to update your contact information and re-register.
  • Click on About to show information about the tool and check for updates.




    TPS Initialize/TPS Auto Learn

    If applicable for the selected engine, click TPS Initialize or TPS Auto Learn to run the procedure.




    Base Timing Mode

    If applicable for the selected engine, click Base Timing Mode to check timing.
